This article discusses the wood trim and center console on our 2000/2001 Audi A6 project cars though as I understand things, the information applies to all 1997-2004 4-door and Avant A6 model. My focus here is on the Audi internal naming, and parts availability.

I read somewhere that the wood is affixed to a metal or plastic base and then encased in polycarbonate clear plastic. The latter protects the wood from UV rays and oxidation, since the wood is never exposed to the air -- until the plastic cracks, anyway.
Only a few types of wood were used. One of these is a orange-brown color that Audi named "Vavona." If you see "5TQ" on the metal backing of the wood trim parts on your car, your car has "Vavona" wood.
Some of the "Vavona pieces" are no longer available from the dealer.
