Audi C5 A6 Quattro 4.2 V8 Torque Settings for Front HubLast Updated: 09/24/2017 | | Parts Group: Hub base | This article discusses the front hub on a 2000 Audi A6 Quattro with the 4.2 V8. My focus here is on how aggressively to torque the bolts involved in swapping out the front hub. I looked them up in the online Bentley manual.
At the top rear is a 13mm vertical bolt that attaches to the steering arm. I was surprised at the official torque spec. It's low. If I'm reading it right, it's 44 inch-pounds ... NOT foot-pounds, inch-pounds. We plan to use our small torque wrench.
At the top rear is also a 16mm not-and-bolt combination: 33 foot-pounds.
At the top front is a long 16mm not-and-bolt combination: 30 foot-pounds.
At the bottom are two 18mm nuts at different levels of elevation: 81 foot-pounds for each.

Somrtmes a hub is bent and repalcing it with a good usd one is an option. A symptom of a bent hub is that th brake rotos rubs against the caliper.
