This article discusses the handbrake position switch on Audi C5 A6 cars, specifically its effect on the "brake" warning showing in red letters on the instrument cluster.the removal process.
While preparing a car for a race, we had removed the center console to install a fire exteinguisher, and we removed the handbrake position switch from its mounting point. As a result, it sent a false positive signal, telling us the handbrake was on even though that wasn't the case. Fixes would include putting it back into position or simply removing the switch. This removes the cause (or one of them) that makes the "brake" warning light visible in the instrument cluster.
