The headlamp units are different for the 4.2 V8 model vs. the other models in the C5 range, due to the entire front of the 4.2 V8 model being extended forward to make space for the larger engine, and being angled to be more vertical, so as to compensate for that.
On the 4.2 V8 models, the headlamp units are not the same for the pre-facelift (through 2001) vs. post-facelift (2002 and on) models. On the latter, the projector is larger. On the non-4.2 V8 models, the headlamp units are a different physical size for the pre-facelift (through 2001) vs. post-facelift (2002 and on) models due to the different shape of the hood.
The headlamp units are also not the same for the Halogen vs. Xenon (a.k.a. High Intensity Discharge a.k.a. HID) models. On the latter, there is a high-voltage igniter, and automatic height adjustment using a motor integral to the headlight unit.
To tell a 4.2 V8 headlamp from a non-4.2 V8 headlamp, look at the paddle attached to the bulb holder for the side marker light. On the 4.2 V8, the paddle is generally parallel to the direction of the movement of the car. On the non-4.2 V8 headlamp, the paddle points toward the centerline of the car.
